Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 11, 2026
Filament (“we,” “our,” or “us”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
Information We Collect
We collect the minimum information required to run Filament's licensing, billing, account access, and support flows:
- License activation and validation data:When you activate Filament, the desktop app sends your license key to Filament's backend, not directly to Polar. The request also includes an installation ID, machine ID, hashed machine fingerprint, app version, platform, and basic request metadata such as IP-derived audit data and user agent. We use this to validate the license, enforce the 2-seat policy, issue a signed entitlement receipt, and support activation troubleshooting.
- Customer account and purchase information: When you create an account or purchase a license, your email address, customer identifiers, checkout records, invoices, and payment metadata are processed by Polar.sh, our payment provider. We do not store your credit card details.
- Local license storage:On your device, Filament stores the raw license key and installation secret in the operating system's secure credential store where available, and stores non-secret license state plus signed receipts in the app's local database.
- Support materials you choose to share: If you export logs or contact support, the files and messages you send may include environment details, app version, and recent diagnostics.
How We Use Your Information
- To activate, validate, and deactivate Filament licenses
- To enforce the concurrent-installation policy and prevent license abuse
- To open customer-portal sessions and point you to the canonical location of your raw license key and invoices
- To respond to support requests that you initiate
Data Retention
Filament stores license records, activation history, webhook audit events, and validation events for operational support, fraud prevention, and billing reconciliation. We do not promise a fixed short retention window in the current product. We retain those records only as long as reasonably necessary for support, operational, security, and legal needs, after which they may be deleted or anonymized. Polar retains purchase records according to its own legal and operational requirements.
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
- Polar.sh — payment processing and license key management. Polar is the canonical source of your raw license key, invoices, and billing history. Polar's Privacy Policy ↗
Cookies
Filament does not use tracking or analytics cookies on the public site. Authentication and customer-dashboard access may use session cookies, and opening the customer portal may create additional session cookies through Polar or our authentication provider.
Trial Behavior
The Filament trial uses the same desktop binary as the paid app. The trial restrictions are functional product limits, not telemetry: export remains disabled, and live output is disrupted every 20 seconds until the app has a valid paid license.
Your Rights
You may request access to or deletion of personal data that we control, subject to our legal and operational obligations. Some purchase and billing data is controlled by Polar. Contact support@filament.click if you have a privacy request.
